Garda Vetting

Any person helping in schools in any way will require Garda Vetting. If you currently help in the school or plan to help in the future (e.g. Sports Day, School Tour, Reading etc) you can complete the Garda Vetting Form available to download here.

Completing the form

  1. Download and complete sections 1 and 2 of the Vetting Invitation Form (NVB1). The school will complete section 3 and sign as the contact person. Important- Please make sure to tick the box at the bottom of section 2 just above where you sign your name. Please ensure that you fill in the form in BLACK PEN. When answering Role Being Vetted For, please put in ‘School tours and assisting with classes’.
  2. Bring in the form with two forms of ID that total 100 points to the school office. There is a points system of verification of identity where 100 points must be reached. Please see the ‘Proof of Identity’ table below that indicates the points per form of identification. One form of identification should be photographic. The school will photocopy these IDs and return them to you.
  3. The school regularly submits applications for vetting for our volunteers.
  4. The school will be informed if individual vetting applications have been successful and will retain for records.
  5. This process will need to be repeated every four years.

We rely on the good will and help of parents and therefore appreciate your efforts to get Garda Vetted.

Those previously Garda Vetting in the last four years through the school need not fill in the new form at the moment. If you are Garda Vetted through another organization you will also need to be Garda Vetted through the school.

Proof of Identity

At least two forms of identification must be produced to validate the identity of the applicant when completing the application. One of these should be photographic where possible. There is a points system for the verification of identity where 100 points must be reached. Different forms of identification are weighted with a sliding scale of points (see below). The National Vetting Bureau requires that copies of all proof of identity are retained for the validity of the vetting.
